Many of us are worried or feel nervous about visiting the dentist. This is a natural feeling, and you don’t have to feel uncomfortable with this. The bigger problem, however, is when this fear has led us to neglect our teeth, which may lead to the need for even more dental care. In our dental surgery, we can offer our patients conscious sedation, a technique that allows you to stay conscious but in a state of complete relaxation.
Also known as dental sedation, conscious sedation is an oral or intravenous drug that removes the anxiety and allows treatment to take place. The patient remains conscious and can respond orally to the dentist. It reduces the need of general anaesthetics and allows more procedures in fewer appointments.
While relaxed, you can breathe and speak normally, feel comfortable and calm. Most importantly, all your anxious feelings have disappeared. You will not remember much about your experience afterwards, and you will come back slightly to the ground knowing that your treatment is complete.
The use of sedation drugs puts anxious patients in a relaxed state while the dentist performs their treatment. When considered, the patient experiences less anxiety and stress and often remembers little, if anything of what happened during the treatment. All of this makes a dental appointment a far less unpleasant experience for the patients, especially invasive treatments. At the same time, the dentist can concentrate better on the dental procedure, knowing that the patient is calm.
